Thanksgiving paintball

I spent my Thanksgiving morning in a very non-traditional way. I went out and played paintball. I played out at Toledo Assault Games (TAG) and what a different experience I had. About 60 people came out to play that morning and it was one of the strangest, most bizarre days I had.

The morning started out with taunting and threats back and forth. The two sides had this thing going for 5 years and took it way too personally. Finally we got going and began playing after sorting out the non-partisan players. When you have a traditional “thanksgiving war” and 20 trigger happy newbies playing you end up with strange results. As soon as the whistle blew everyone started shooting. Another problem I noticed is the lack of cooperation. When you have 30 people on each team organization begins to get lost. It was every man for himself, within a pseudo-team structure. I have never seen more self centered egoists. No strategy, no talent, all blind fire.

One guy, whose name I won’t mention, touted himself as the king of paintball. He talked so much, but when it came to on the field production–nill. Nothing, he did nothing. Total coward, just hid far away and fired blindly. He had an autococker all tricked out and painted nicely, but to no avail. Totally useless player. At one point he just got excited and started shooting at some poor old ref. Just ran after him and shot him more than 20 times. The ref had no gun, a small face mask, and short sleeves. I have no respect for asininity and idiocy. And we wonder why people think we are crazy? I eliminated that idiot twice later on, he was not killed the rest of the day. The rest of the time he was on my team.

Other than that I had a great day. I got the flag 5 times out of the 7-8 games we played. Four of those five were center flag games, as soon as the whistle blew I ran (4.5 sec forty yard dash) for the flag and brought it back. Not once did I get hit doing that (I told ya it works). I kept it with me and eventually got hit. One of those times we had about 5 minutes left and I told my team that I was going to run for it. I put everything down except the flag and ran at the count of three while, everyone else was “supposed” to cover. About ten yards from the other side I got hit. They thanked me for bringing the flag over. But the ref took it back to the middle. Oh well, it was worth the try.

What really disappointed me is the level of cowardliness (coined it myself). These guys talked so much, but on the field they were wimps. They never took risks, were scared to move, and were just doing nothing. They thought that the object of paintball was to dig a grave and hide all day, so that you don’t get hit. I am so disappointed, but I had fun overall… paintball is always fun. But I think there ought to be rules against cowardly play. These guys were pathetic!
